You can take off and request to remain in the pattern to do practice landings. With Pilot2ATC you can just use the moving map during flight and get aircraft advisories, or you can file a flight plan and do the whole ATC thing. it doesn't descend you into mountains like 124th ATC does, although nothings perfect. While 124atc is free (I've tried it and it works OK but has driven me into too many mountains) Pilot2ATC evaluates your IFR route and minimum safe altitudes enroute to better guide ATC during the flight. It provides approach procedures to use while flying. It provides a moving map so I can see items of interest in the area I am flying. It all depends on wether the features are worth it for you.
